Baseball
Our Candlelight baseball league is all about player development and fun. Standings and scores are kept. It’s a chance to work on developing player skills, not be concerned about winning games.
Tee-ball
Tee ball is a baseball game for young boys and girls. It is a way to have fun while learning how to play. The game is the entry sport to baseball and softball for young players, generally five to six years old. Tee ball develops the primary baseball skills of hitting, running, fielding and throwing. The players gain an understanding of the fundamental rules, which allows minimally competitive league play at all age levels.
Here are some important things to know:
- The ball is not pitched. It is hit off a batting tee.
- Every player bats and plays in the field.
- There is a real or pretend playing line between first base and third or curved 40 feet out from home plate.
- No fielder can cross the playing line until the ball is hit.
- The ball must be hit 10 feet or is a foul.
- When the ball is hit, don't throw the bat.
- Runners must stay on base until the ball is hit. There is no stealing.
- The inning is over when all 5 runs have been scored.
- Safety helmets must be worn when at bat or on base.
Machine Pitch
The Machine Pitch division offers kids their first chance to hit off of pitching. The pitches are delivered from a pitching machine that throws the ball fairly straight and consistently into the strike zone. This allows children to develop the confidence to stand in the batters box and take good swings without the fear of being hit by a wild pitch. Each batter gets five warning pitches to put the ball into play.
Coach Pitch
The Coach Pitch League is just a step ahead of the T-Ball Division. As the name implies, the team coach tosses up to five pitches to the batter.
Children who are age 7 and 8 can play in this league. Game scores and an official scorebook are kept.
Minors
The Rookie League program is the first somewhat competitive division for children who have worked their way thru the various instructional leagues(T-Ball, Coach Pitch, Machine Pitch). Kids are given their first opportunity to pitch. Children who are age 9 and 10 can play in this league. Game scores and an official scorebook are kept.
Majors
The Major division is a competitive league that is open to youth between the ages of 11 and 12. This division functions as a challenging training ground as kids prepare for the highest level of play. This age group enjoys the level of competition—they are challenged, but not overmatched.
Goals
The goal of Candlelight League is to serve our community by providing competitive youth sports in a safe environment where children learn basic skills and more without fear of harassment or humiliation.
